Soldiers, fighters, survivors, villains, victims...Warriors.
Wow, but let's not forget to mention...
Wounded, lost, hurt, scared, underdog, black sheep, loner, bullied, betrayed...MONSTER.
But also...
Saint, healer, prophet, hero, worshiper, worshiped, worker, trader, helper, brother, sister, sibling, friend..."HUMAN".
Or, we can just be honest. Maybe too honest for separation because truth needs a home too. So, let's try this again:
Hey Humans,
We are all still waiting for tomorrow. A day not likely to come. A promise land so far we know it's fantasy--a heaven that only comes when we're dead. Sleep we will never get existing. Peace we dream about and create art around it--patterns we try to fix while following the strands. We are still waiting for tomorrow.
They promised us kindness--such a kindness that it has a taste...honey. They promised us a hug--an embrace so harmless that it washes down like milk. They promise us freedom from captives--but we are still captives and we have been walking for years. Oh, but let me make one simple modification here--something raw...something present...something that's ours we get to keep--"They" does not exist in this equation. It's us verses us. Before zoos, house pets, and haunting games for other animals...WE WERE THE ANIMALS FOR EACH OTHER. And we still are. So, yes. This means all of us.
